28 makes the grade..

Track is in on over 80% of the helix so I decided to hook up power and see how #28 handled the track-work and grade.  She ran well and once the rest of the track is in I'll permanently wire it and fine tune the turnouts and track.

  1. The Gatorboard sample passed at the clinic seemed very stiff. How did you implement the vertical curves at the ends of the helix?

  2. The helix is the one part of the layout made entirely of wood. The subroadbed is 1/2 inch plywood so it bends into the vertical curve needed at each end of the run on the helix easily. I eased the grade to level about 1 1/2 feet from each end of the run so the transition wouldn't be to sudden,causing operational problems.
